அடுத்த நாள் காலையில் எழுந்ததும் அனைவரும் நடு ஹாலில் கூடியிருந்தனர். அங்கே தலைவராக அமர்ந்திருந்தார் நீலவேணி மற்றும் ஆனந்தனின் மூத்த மகன் சுந்தரமூர்த்தி. சுந்தரமூர்த்தி எடுக்கும் முடிவிற்கு இக்குடும்பத்தில் உள்ள அனைவரும் கட்டுப்பட வேண்டும். தனது தம்பி தங்கைகளை தனது கட்டுப்பாட்டுக்குள் வைத்திருப்பார். சுந்தரமூர்த்தி கிராணைட் வியாபாரம் செய்து கொண்டிருக்க, நல்லசிவம் ஜவுளி வியாபாரம் செய்கிறார். தங்களது தங்கை நாச்சியாருக்கு வீட்டோடு மாப்பிள்ளையாக புண்ணியக்கோடியை தேர்வு செய்து, அவர்களுக்கென வாசனை திரவிய வியாபாரத்தை ஏற்படுத்தி கொடுத்திருந்தார். இப்படி வீட்டில் உள்ள ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் பார்த்து பார்த்து நல்லது செய்பவரின் பேச்சை யாரும் மீறுவதில்லை. சுந்தரமூர்த்தியின் மகன் ரஞ்சித், மகள் நீனா; நல்லசிவத்தின் ஒரே மகள் சூர்யா; நாச்சியாரின் மகன் ஆதித், மகள் மஞ்சரி. அனைவரும் கல்லூரி படிப்பை முடித்து தத்தமது தந்தையருக்கு துணையாக வியாபாரத்தில் இறங்கியிருந்தனர். என்னதான் சொந்தமாக வியாபாரம் செய்தாலும் அதிலிருக்கும் ஒத்த ரூபாய்க்கு கூட வீட்டில் கணக்கு சொல்ல வேண்டும். ஆதலால் தான் கடைக்குட்டி சூர்யாவை ஏவியிருந்தனர். சூர்யா என்றால் அனைவருக்கும் ரொம்ப பிடிக்கும். கல்லூரியில் இறுதியாண்டு படிப்பவளை, கடந்த சில நாட்களுக்கு முன்பு தான் ஹாஸ்டலில் இருந்து வீட்டிற்கு கூட்டி வந்தனர். நேற்று நடந்த சம்பவத்தால் மிகவும் கோபமாக இருந்தார் சுந்தரமூர்த்தி. வீட்டில் அனைவருக்கும் முன்னிலையில் நிறுத்தி வைக்கப்பட்டாள் சூர்யா.
“உனக்கு எத்தனை தடவை சொல்லுறது?! விளையாட்டு விபரீதம் ஆகும்னு.. இதுக்கு மேலயும் உன்னைய இப்படியே விட்டு வச்சா போற வீட்டுல எங்க மானத்தை தான் வாங்குவ. அதனால் இனிமே நீ இந்த வீட்டுல இருக்கக்கூடாது.”
“அண்ணே.” என நல்லசிவமும்
“பெரியவனே.” என ஆனந்தனும் அலற,
தன் கையை வாயில் வைத்து மூடி அதிர்ச்சியை வெளிப்படுத்தினார் தனலெட்சுமி. அங்கிருந்த ஒவ்வொருவர் முகத்திலும் ஒவ்வொரு விதமான உணர்ச்சிகளை வெளிப்படுத்தினர்.
“டேய்.. பெரியவனே. அவ செஞ்சது தப்பு தான். அதுக்காக பொட்டப்புள்ளய வீட்டை விட்டு அனுப்பக்கூடாதுலே. உனக்கென்ன புத்தி கித்தி கெட்டுப்போச்சா? அவளை என்கிட்ட விட்டுடு. நான் பார்த்துக்குறேன். இப்படி எல்லாரும் இருந்தும் அனாதையா அனுப்பி வைக்காதலே.”
“வெளியேப் போகட்டும். அப்பத்தான் ஒரு ரூபாய் சம்பாதிக்க எம்புட்டு கஷ்டப்படணும்னு தெரியும். இங்கப்பாரு சூர்யா. இன்னைலருந்து ஒரு வருஷம் கழிச்சு தான் இந்த வீட்டுக்குள்ள வரணும். அதுவரைக்கும் இந்த வீட்டுல இருக்குற யாரும் உன்னை பார்க்க வரவும் மாட்டோம். உன்கூட பேசவும் மாட்டோம். இன்னைலருந்து நீ சுதந்திரமா எங்க வேணாலும் போகலாம். போயி உன்னோட திங்ஸை பேக் பண்ணிக்கோ. டேய் ரஞ்சித்.”
“அப்பா..”
“சூர்யாவை கொண்டு போயி ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷன்ல விட்டுட்டு வா.”
“அப்பா?”
“சொன்னதை செய்டா.”
“சரிங்கப்பா.” எனக் கூறிய ரஞ்சித் சூர்யாவை வெளியே அழைத்துச் செல்ல தயாரானான். அனைவரும் அழுதபடி சூர்யாவிற்கு விடை கொடுக்க, அவர்களைப் பார்த்து ஆறுதல் கூறியபடி சிரித்துக் கொண்டே விடை கொடுத்த சூர்யா, ரஞ்சித்தின் பைக்கில் பின்னால் ஏறி அமர்ந்து கொண்டாள். அவளை கூட்டிச் சென்று மதுரை ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷனில் விட்டான்.
“சாரி.. சூர்யா.. அப்பா எதை மனசுல வைச்சுட்டு இப்படியெல்லாம் பண்றாருன்னு தெரியல. கொஞ்ச நாள் பொறுத்துக்கோ. அவரை எப்படியாவது சம்மதிக்க வைச்சு உன்னை கூப்பிட்டுக்குறோம். தயவு செஞ்சு போன் நம்பரை மட்டும் மாத்திராத. இந்தா. ஊட்டிக்கு டிக்கெட் வாங்கியிருக்கேன். என் ப்ரெண்டோட தங்கச்சி கீதா ஊட்டில டாக்டரா வேலை பார்க்குறா. அவக்கிட்ட உன்னைப் பத்தி சொல்லிருக்கேன். நீ போய் இறங்குனதும் இந்த நம்பருக்கு போன் போடு. அவளே வந்து உன்னை அவளோட வீட்டுக்கு கூட்டிட்டு போயிடுவா.”
“ஓகே ப்ரோ. நான் பார்த்துக்குறேன். சில் ப்ரோ. நீங்க கிளம்புங்க. பெரியப்பா தேடுவாங்க.”
“அவர் தேடுனா தேடிட்டு போறாரு. உன்னோட சேஃப்டி தான் எனக்கு முக்கியம்.”
“இந்த அக்கறை என்னை பணத்தை சுட்டுட்டு வான்னு சொல்லும் போது இருந்துருக்கணும். இப்ப டூலேட்.”
“சும்மா குத்தி காட்டாதடி. ஏதோ தெரியாம நடந்து போச்சு.” என ரஞ்சித் பேசிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் போதே சுந்தரமூர்த்தியிடம் இருந்து அழைப்பு வரவே, கைபேசியை எடுத்து காதில் வைத்தவன், “நான் கிளம்புறேன். நீ பார்த்துப்போ.” எனக் கூறிச் சென்றான். ரஞ்சித் சென்றதும் தன் கையில் இருந்த போனிலிருந்து சிம் கார்டை கலட்டி தூக்கி எறிந்தாள். தன் கையில் அவன் கொடுத்திருந்த டிக்கெட்டையும் தூக்கி எறிந்திருந்தாள். ரயில்வே ஸ்டேஷனில் தனியாக அமர்ந்திருந்தவளின் அருகில் ஒருவர் வந்து அமருவதை உணர்ந்தாள்.
“பாட்டி.”
“பெரியாத்தா.. நானிருக்கும் போது உன்னைய இப்படி தனியா விடுவேனா?! வாத்தா.. நம்ம வீட்டுக்கு போகலாம்.”
“பெரியத்தான்.”
“அவே கிடக்குறான். பொடியன். நான் பார்த்து வளர்ந்த பைய. அவனை நான் சமாளிச்சுக்குறேன். நீ வாத்தா.” என சூர்யாவின் கையைப் பிடித்து தன் இல்லத்திற்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றார் ஆவுடையம்மாள். பல வருடங்களுக்கு முன் இரு வீட்டினருக்கும் இடையே ஏற்பட்ட அங்காளி பங்காளி தகராறில் இருக் குடும்பமும் பிரிந்துவிட்டது. அப்படி பிரிந்திருந்தாலும் சொந்த பந்தங்களை பற்றி சொல்லித் தான் வளர்த்திருந்தார் தனலெட்சுமி. பகை இரு வீட்டாருக்கும் தானே ஒழிய, சூர்யாவை அனைவருக்கும் பிடிக்கும்; அவனுக்கு பயந்து யாரும் அதை வெளிக்காட்டுவதில்லை. இப்போது யாருமில்லாமல் இருக்கும் சூர்யாவிற்கு தன் ஆதரவு கரத்தை நீட்டியுள்ளார் ஆவுடையம்மாள்.
“வாத்தா.. உள்ள வா.”
“இல்ல பாட்டி. பெரியத்தானுக்கு தெரிஞ்சா அவ்வளவுதான்.”
“அட நீ வாத்தா. இவ்வளவு தூரம் வந்துட்டு திரும்பி போறேங்குற. உள்ள வா..” என சூர்யாவின் கையைப் பிடித்து உள்ளே அழைத்துச் சென்றார். சூர்யா வருவதைப் பார்த்து பதறித் கொண்டு வந்தார் அவரது மருமகள் அலமேலு.
“அத்தை என்னக் காரியம் பண்றீங்க?”
“ஏன்? பேத்திய கூட்டிட்டு வந்துருக்கேன்.”
“இது மட்டும் அவுகளுக்கும் பெரியவனுக்கும் தெரிஞ்சா நம்மள கொன்னே போட்ருவாக.”
“நீ செத்த சும்மா இரு. பொம்பளைங்க நினைச்சா என்ன வேணா பண்ணலாம். ஒரு பொண்ணை ஒளிச்சு வைக்க முடியாதா? நான் பார்த்துக்குறேன். நீ எனக்கு ஒத்துழைச்சா மட்டும் போதும்.”
“அதெல்லாம் சரி. இவளை எங்க ஒளிச்சு வைக்கப் போறீங்க?”
“நம்ம பெரியவனோட ரூம்லதே.”
“அத்தை?”
“இப்போதைக்கு வேற எங்க ஒளிச்சு வைச்சாலும் கண்டுபிடிச்சுடுவாங்க. அவேந்தே துபாய் போயிருக்கான்ல. வர்றதுக்கு ரெண்டு மூணு மாசமாகும். அதுவரைக்கும் அவே ரூம்லயே இருக்கட்டும். அதுக்கப்புறம் பார்த்துக்கலாம்.
“அதெல்லாஞ்சரி. உங்க மகனையும் மகளையும் நினைச்சாத்தே என் ஈரக்கொலையே நடுங்குது.”
“நானிருக்கேன்ல.. எதுக்கு இம்புட்டு பயம்?”
“அப்போ சரி. வாடா. உள்ளாற வா. அதோ அந்த ரூம்தே பெரியவனோடது. நீ அங்கன இருந்துக்கோ. வேற எதுக்காவும் வெளிய வந்துராத. உன்னோட மாமே கண்ணுலயும் சித்தி கண்ணுலயும் பட்டுராதேத்தா.” என பதறிய அலமேலு அம்மாவிற்கு மெல்லிய தலையசைப்பை கொடுத்தாள் சூர்யா. அவர்கள் சொன்ன அறைக்குள் நுழைந்து பார்த்தவளுக்கு எதிரே ஆளுயுர புகைப்படத்தில் இருந்த ரிஷி ஆரிகேத் தெரிந்தான். அப்புகைப்படத்தினைப் பார்த்து அதன் அருகில் சென்ற சூர்யா,
“பெயரப் பாரு பெயரை! ரிஷி ஆரிகேத்னு.. போட்டோல கூட உர்ருன்னு முகத்தை வைச்சுகிட்டுருக்குற உர்றாங்கொட்டான். நல்ல வேளை நீ இங்க இல்ல.” என அவனது அறையை சுற்றிப் பார்த்தவள், அதிசயித்துப் போனாள்.
“வாவ்.. எவ்ளோ பெரிசா இருக்கு? செம ரூம். எவ்ளோ நீட்டா வைச்சுருக்க?” என அவனது மெத்தையில் விழுந்தவள் அரையடி ஆழத்திற்குள் புதைத்தாள்.
“வாவ்.. செம ஸ்மூத். சாஃப்ட்..” என தலையணையை அணைத்து தூங்கிப் போனாள். பாதி இரவில் கண் விழித்த சூர்யாவின் மீது யாரோ கையைப் போட்டு தூங்கிக் கொண்டிருப்பதை
உணர்ந்து எழுந்தவளை சட்டென இழுத்து அணைத்து அவளது இதழ்களை கவ்வி கொண்டான்.
